Open Source Your Hardware Too

Today ASuS and Intel launched WePC, with the idea of “Community Designed” PCs.  It offers a strong range of laptops, from netbooks, to daily use laptops, to gaming laptops, with processors randing from Atom to Centrino 2 Extreme.

You can choose designs pitched by ASuS, Intel, ‘community members’, or make one yourself.  I know, ‘customizing your hardware’ has been around for years on major sites such as Dell and Lenovo.  But this offers a somewhat wider range and you can post your own customization for someone else to build on.  It’s the old concept taken a step further.

Cheers to Intel and ASuS.

  1. By your title, I thought that Intel and Asus had opened all their hardware.

What a deception (even if the concept remains great) ^^
