NYC Council Votes Against Letting Voters Decide

Michael Bloomberg is on the downhill of his second term as New York mayor and would like to seek re-election.   The problem is that under New york law, he can only serve two terms.

It is now up to the New York City Council to decide.  But since the election isn’t until next year, there is more than ample time to have a special election to decide whether or not to let the voters decide if they can have a three-term mayor.

The New York City Council today, however rejected that possibility today.  Instead of letting the voters decide, the council itself will vote on it.  In a recent poll, 90% of New Yorkers polled said they want to decide, not the City Council.

Another example of government officials saying they know what’s best for you.  If I lived in New York, and my City Council representative voted against this, I would fire them.
